Cathleen Peterson-Layne, R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy - Class of 1988

Cathleen Peterson-Layne is a physician, scientist and entrepreneur whose work is shaping the future of health care leadership. A triple-trained pharmacist, pharmacologist and anesthesiologist, she is the creator of Being inCredible™ and founder of The Alignment Project™, an initiative dedicated to helping health care organizations create cultures where people feel valued and aligned so both individuals and institutions can thrive — not merely survive.

Cathleen began her academic journey at the University of Arizona, earning a bachelor’s in pharmacy. She then completed master’s and doctoral degrees in pharmacology at Duke University, continuing on to earn her medical degree and board certification in anesthesiology. Her career includes faculty and leadership appointments at UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke University, the University of Nebraska Medical Center and Emory University.

She continues practicing anesthesiology and serving as an examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology while guiding leaders as a certified executive and team coach. Her focus is on advancing perspective-driven leadership and creating aligned, human-centered cultures — environments where purpose is clear, people feel valued and teams function with clarity and connection.

Cathleen Peterson-Layne is not only a distinguished alumna but also a trusted adviser, a generous supporter of the university and the college, and an inspiring example of what it means to lead with purpose. The University of Arizona is honored to name her the 2026 Alumna of the Year for the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy.
