Each year, we honor two for outstanding contributions to our students.

The Labbe Family Rookie Preceptor of the Year

The Rookie Preceptor of the Year is awarded to a preceptor who has demonstrated commitment to experiential training and has been a preceptor for any college of pharmacy for 5 years or less.

To be eligible, the nominee must not have ever received the award previously and cannot be a faculty member. The Rookie of the Year receives a desk plaque and special recognition that is sponsored by Carl and Kathyrn Labbe.

All nominations are submitted by PharmD students and will be reviewed by the Experiential Education Team and a recipient will be selected based on the submitted examples of excellence in teaching and as a role model in addition to the preceptor's overall evaluation scores.

The Preceptor of the Year award is an honor bestowed upon one exceptional preceptor. Winning preceptors are outstanding teachers and great role models. Their passion for pharmacy and patient care inspires and motivates students. To be eligible, the nominee must not have received the award within the last five years and cannot be a faculty member. The Preceptor of the Year receives a desktop plaque and award and is sponsored by Kevin Boesen and SinfoniaRx.

Faculty Preceptor Award

This award recognizes a faculty member who has demonstrated excellence in teaching pharmacy students in practice settings. Eligibility criteria include full-time faculty status and serving as an experiential preceptor for at least four students on APPE rotations for each of the previous two years, including the academic year of nomination. Faculty members are excluded from nomination if they received this award in the previous year. Faculty and students are encouraged to submit nominations. Any faculty member who is nominated will be asked to provide their CV and a letter explaining their philosophy about and approaches to high-quality experiential teaching.

Selection criteria includes student evaluations over the previous two years. Other criteria that may be considered include demonstration of and contributions to the following areas:

  • experiential education (number of students precepted in both IPPE and APPE rotations)
  • student mentoring
  • student projects advising
  • pharmacy practice excellence (demonstration of innovation in practice, contributions to educational enterprise in the form of posters, presentations and publications)
  • professional community service (active involvement in student health fairs/outreach activities)
  • other professional recognitions.

The Faculty Preceptor of the Year receives a desk plaque and name on the Dean’s Office perpetual plaque and is sponsored by the College of Pharmacy. The selection committee will be comprised of members of the experiential education program. A monetary gift of $250 will also be awarded.
