“Focus on TDP-43: Post-translational modifications as driving factors of proteinopathies in AD and Related Neurodegenerative Diseases"
Abstract: The mechanism underlying proteinopathies in neurodegeneration are complex and require greater understanding. In particular, TDP-43 post-translational modifications (PTM) contribution to pathology are multifaceted and beyond the protein solubility processes. In this presentation, Dr. Selenica will discuss the research advances from her laboratory focusing on citrullination, a novel PTM discovered in her laboratory, and its role in TDP-43 protein folding, cellular mechanisms and pathology in TDP-43 animal models and human tissue from Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).
This talk will also discuss the role of eukaryotic initiation factor - 5A (eIF5AHyp) in regulation of TDP-43 subcellular sequestration and dysregulation of brain metabolism in vivo. In both lines of research, PTMs are the connections between biological processes gone awry and neuropathological progression.
