Why did you choose to major in Pharmaceutical Sciences and/or Medical Pharmacology & Toxicology?
I chose to major in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Medical Pharmacology & Toxicology because I am fascinated by how medications and plant-derived compounds work in the body to treat disease and improve patient outcomes. I have always been curious about how drugs produce their effects and learning about traditional Chinese herbal medicine has strengthened my interest in pharmacology and toxicology and how modern medicines are derived from natural compounds. My majors give me the opportunity to gain knowledge to develop safer and more effective treatments. Moreover, this field combines my curiosity about drug design and safety with my passion for helping others.
What are your career interests?
After earning my PharmD, I hope to specialize in pediatric pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, or compounding pharmacy. I look forward to discovering where my journey takes me.
What piece of advice would you give to an incoming PharmSci or PharmTox student?
My advice to the incoming students would be to utilize resources around you. The faculty and advisors are all incredibly supportive! Definitely attend events that interest you, put yourself out there, and try new opportunities whether they are research, internship, or work. Most importantly, find an effective study habit that works for you!
