Alumni Council Member
Maura Raffensperger

Maura Raffensperger graduated in 1977 from the UA College of Pharmacy and went on to intern at Tucson Medical Center. She implemented one of the first surgery satellite pharmacies in California at Santa Monica Hospital, which resulted in dramatic reductions in inventory costs and improvements in patient care. During this time, she facilitated a quality circle, trained nursing and medical staff, and taught pharmacy students as a Clinical Instructor of Pharmacy at USC. She enjoyed teaching and wanted to impact students before they made a career choice, so she went back to school to obtain an MA in secondary education and taught high school chemistry and physics for a number of years. An avid hiker, she met her husband when she took the Basic Mountaineering Training Class he was teaching. She has climbed more than 400 peaks and is the recipient of a Leadership Award from the Hundred Peaks Section of the Sierra Club. She is the current chair of the Arizona State Museum Director’s Council and active with the League of Women Voters of Greater Tucson.
