Why did you choose to get your PharmD Degree?
When I was younger, I had an allergic reaction to amoxicillin and as a result I became very interested in how medicine works. To pursue that interest when deciding on an undergraduate major I did lots of research into various healthcare fields, including talking to many people in practice. A neighbor of mine is a pharmacist and introduced me to the world of pharmacy beyond the community setting that everyone assumes is the limit. From that point I knew that I wanted to pursue a PharmD and aim towards working within a specialized field such as pediatrics or compounding.
Why did you choose the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy?
I chose the RKCCOP because I'm a Phoenix native and wanted to stay close to home while getting the best education possible. The staff, students, and campus are all amazing.
What are you most excited about in the versatile WORLD of Pharmacy?
The world of pharmacy is bigger than people realize, there are so many specialty fields to pursue. I'm excited to specialize and provide excellent patient care to my future patients.
What are your career interests?
I'm interested in pursuing a career in a specialized field such as pediatrics, diabetics, or compounding. Additionally, I'm open to completing a residency program to help me on this path.
What advice would you give to a prospective PharmD student?
Make studying in the library a high priority. Treat studying like a job, clock into the library early, go to class, and come back to study afterwards too. This helps me to minimize procrastination versus studying at home. Also, make drug tables for everything for consistency and ease of review!
