Degree:
Doctor of Pharmacy, critical care or cardiology  | Class of 2028

Chandranae Green was born and raised in Arizona. She received her bachelor’s degree in forensic science from Grand Canyon University and later completed her master's degree in forensic science at Arizona State University. She is currently a P2 student at the R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy. Green is excited for residency, job searching, and just being an active member of the healthcare field. Outside of school, her favorite hobbies are shopping for new books and reading them. Recently, she built herself a bookshelf, and it’s about 85% full, so she has some more shopping to do. In her free time, she also plays the piano and loves spending time at home with her family.

In 2025, Green was awarded the Walmart Community Pharmacy Scholarship for Pharmacy Students. Now in its fourth year, the scholarship program promotes and supports student pharmacists who will address health disparities. Selected awardees must demonstrate leadership, academic success, and a commitment to serving rural or medically underserved patient populations. She was one of only seven recipients, nationwide, to receive the scholarship. "When I got the call about the scholarship, I couldn't believe it," said Green. "Receiving this scholarship was truly one of the happiest moments of the year, it felt like such a huge step forward. Definitely a moment I will never forget."

Can you share a moment from your studies that solidified your decision to become a pharmacist?
  • I switched my major during undergrad and still wasn’t 100% certain about what I wanted to do. Thankfully, my grandmother was a pharmacist, and I spend a lot of time with her, so she really inspired me to pursue pharmacy school. Ultimately, I knew I wanted to earn another degree, and healthcare has always called to me since I was young. Even when I majored in forensics, my goal was medical school to become a medical examiner, so I’ve always loved medicine. However, being in classes like therapeutics has really confirmed that becoming a pharmacist is the right path for me. Disclaimer, I did not have a full grasp of pharmacy because I was only exposed to retail at the time. But having a better understanding of how medications directly impact patient outcomes, having the opportunity to advocate for patients, and realizing just how vast and diverse pharmacy is are some of the many aspects that have solidified my decision to continue in this profession.

What’s one study habit or routine that has been essential to your success in pharmacy school?
  • Take a break. You need breaks in pharmacy school.  I cannot stress this enough, learn when it is time to just put the iPad and the papers down and just rest. You will shut down at the worst possible time if you continue to just go, go, go. It is okay to take a nap or a 10-minute break and then start fresh. I personally will study for 30 minutes and then take a 10-minute break. It has been very effective so far.

What qualities do you believe are essential for a successful pharmacist?
  • Humility, discipline, flexibility, and patience.

What’s one misconception about pharmacists that you wish more people understood?
  • Pharmacy is not just counting pills.

What’s your personal motto or mantra that keeps you motivated during challenging times?
  •  "The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; but the soul of the diligent shall be made rich" - Proverbs 13:4
So if I want to get where I want to be, I have to work hard.
