Q & A
What inspired you to pursue a MSPS?
- Initially I chose to pursue an MSPS degree as I wanted to expand my understanding from my BSPS. I realized I wanted to be in industry, but I was not sure exactly where. From the MSPS I have been privileged to have been part of a great lab and summer research opportunity which has helped develop my interest in clinical research.
How do you plan to continue your education and professional development after graduation?
- Currently I am planning on gaining a couple of years in industry to be able to apply what I have learned so far. After this time period I will decide if I will further my education or my professional development.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received from a professor or mentor?
- The best piece of advice I have heard was “Treat school and your research lab as a job”. I learned quickly how true this was as I started to apply this in my studies and research opportunities. I noticed how, even when I didn’t fully understand a concept, when I put in the time as I would a job, I was able to build off this knowledge and apply if to other courses.
What’s one study habit or routine that has been essential to your success?
- I learned how I need to study for my courses a bit each day. I realized early on when I studied for hours right before an exam, I didn’t fully grasp the concepts like I did when I put the time to study a little bit over a period of a couple weeks. Also, I need time to destress since if I didn’t have this I would start to burn out. To fix this once a week I try to set a time aside when I can unwind and do something fun with my friends.
What’s your favorite spot on campus to relax or study?
The swings on the sixth floor on HSIB are great. I go there a lot to have fresh air as I am studying.
