PharmD Graduate Spotlight: Jana Sawyer
In preparation for the College of Pharmacy’s 2021 Convocation, we’re highlighting a few of our many extraordinary graduates.
One of those outstanding students, Jana Sawyer, shared with us some advice and memories that she collected during her time at the College of Pharmacy.
Name: Jana Sawyer
Hometown: Gilbert, AZ
Program: PharmD
Q: What inspired you to pursue your PharmD?
A: I decided to pursue my PharmD so that I could work as a member of an interprofessional healthcare team in order to improve overall patient outcomes.
Q: What have you accomplished during your studies that you are proud of?
A: I am proud of the articles I wrote for the Banner University Medical Center South newsletter as one of the student committee members, as well as my senior project that evaluated the safety and efficacy of Neupogen compared to one of its biosimilars, Zarxio.
Q: What are your other plans for after graduation?
A: I will be completing my PGY-1 residency at the Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System in Tucson, AZ.
Q: What is your favorite memory from school?
A: My favorite memories from school are the ones that I share with the friends I met through the PharmD program whether that be studying until late in the library together, traveling together, or volunteering at health fairs together!
Q: Do you have any words of advice for students who may be thinking about pursuing their PharmD?
A: I would advise students to take advantage of the many opportunities that are provided to you as a student, even if they are out of your comfort zone, and that if an opportunity you are interested in doesn't exist, to go after it and create one for yourself!
