Mechanisms coupling lipid droplets to the etiology of metabolic and aging-related diseases

Abstract - 

Lipid droplets can form in all cell types, and their accumulation outside of adipose tissue (ectopic fat) is commonly associated with disease. This presentation will explore how ipid droplet accumulation in various cell types causes cellular dysfunction. Specifically, I will present new mechanisms through which lipid droplets promote inflammation and genomic instability that underlie disease etiology. The translational relevance of this work to obesity, Type 2 Diabetes, MASLD, and other diseases will be discussed.
