This certificate program provides foundational underpinnings of public health: epidemiology, public health policy and administration, environmental health, biostatistics, and social/behavioral sciences.
This 15-unit certificate is affiliated with the Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and consists of the five core courses. As a fully online program, the certificate is offered as part of the UA Online Campus.
Prospective Students
This course is offered through UA Online and is for practicing health care professionals or alumni who have completed coursework and are not enrolled as a student. Current PharmD students (who are enrolled through main campus) are not able to be simultaneously enrolled in online campus programs.
Courses
Fall - online
The course will introduce students to the basic concepts and principles of epidemiology and how these concepts are applicable for their own particular interests and career in epi related fields.
Spring - online
This is a survey course. Its intention is to introduce students with and without public health experience to a wide variety of public health topics and issues through readings, activities, and self-reflection in a team-based learning environment.
Fall - online
Course emphasizes health hazard sources, methods to identify & evaluate them, and framework used to affect hazard control. Students will evaluate public health issues, understand research designs, identify and evaluate factors important to the development of monitoring programs.
Spring - online
This course introduces biostatistical methods and applications and will cover descriptive statistics, probability theory, and a wide variety of inferential statistical techniques that can be used to make practical conclusions about empirical data. Students will also be learning to use a statistical software package (STATA).
Fall - online
This graduate course is an overview of significant social, cultural, and behavioral issues related to public health. Major public health problems and the influences of socio-cultural issues are analyzed in relation to health behavior. Readings, discussions, and assignments will focus on understanding the social and cultural issues that influence health-related behavior among specific populations in the Southwestern U.S., North America, and internationally.

The flexible program is designed to be completed at your convenience and is 100% online. No entrance exam is required for admission.
Admissions Criteria
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 3.0 GPA. (GPA is based on the last 60 undergraduate units, or if the applicant has 12 or more graduate units, the GPA will be based on graduate units.) Official transcripts are required for proof of previous degree and GPA.
- One course in college biology
- One course in college algebra, statistics, or a more advanced math course
- One letter of recommendation
- Resume or CV
- Personal statement of experiences and goals
- TOEFL or IELTS scores for international applicants

Tuition
The cost for the certificate includes tuition and fees for a total of 15 credit units, at $1100/credit unit plus the university’s flat AFAT fee assessed each semester.
