Dr. Alvarez facilitates learning on leader development topics and is engaged in the Leader Development Institute for the California Pharmacists Association and the Pharmacy Leadership and Education Institute.She also has teaching interests in pain management and palliative care. She belongs to the American Pharmacists Association, served as its 162nd president and was named a fellow for the organization. She has served as president for the Phi Lambda Sigma Leadership Society. She also belongs to the Phi Delta Chi Professional Fraternity who renamed its professional and services projects award in her name.
