David Rhys Axon
Rhys Axon, PhD, MPharm, MS, MRPharmS, is an Associate Research Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, Director of the PharmD Program, Director of the Health and Pharmaceutical Outcomes Graduate Program, and an investigator in the Center for Health Outcomes and Pharmacoeconomics (HOPE Center) at the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy. He received his Master of Pharmacy (MPharm, 2014) degree from the University of Reading (United Kingdom) and has practiced in community pharmacy. He received his Master of Science (MS, 2017) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, 2019) in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Pharmaceutical Economics, Policy, and Outcomes) from the University of Arizona (United States). He has also completed the University of Arizona Certificate in College Teaching (2017), Pharmacy Leadership and Education Institute Training (2023), and the University of Arizona Research Leadership Institute (2024).
Dr. Axon has research expertise in the field of social and administrative pharmacy, health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), and pharmacy education. His primary research interest is improving the clinical, economic, and humanistic outcomes associated with managing chronic health conditions using both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. He also supports student pharmacists and pharmacists with scholarly activities and seeks to demonstrate the value of the pharmacy profession.
Dr. Axon has received research funding from several organizations. He has published over 130 peer-reviewed papers (over two-thirds as first or senior author) and presented his research at national and international meetings. He has held leadership roles in professional organizations such as the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) and the International Society for Pharmacoeconomic and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). Dr. Axon has received numerous awards, including the AACP New Investigator Award and Graduate Teacher of the Year Award.
