Name: Omar Yassin

Why did you choose to pursue a PharmD?
I initially was intrigued about this field due to my father's input in this profession. He is a great inspiration to me due to his lifelong work in pharmaceutical research Furthermore, my interest heightened when I discovered how obtaining a PharmD opens the door to versatile career opportunities . And for this multidimensional aspect, I see how this is the most optimal for my characteristics.

How has your perspective on the field of pharmacy evolved since you started your program?
I do admit I had a limited perspective on how a pharmacist is needed in many areas inter-professionally. I see that there is wide range of opportunities to share your pharmaceutical knowledge in areas such as industry and law. Becoming an equipped individual in as many areas as possible would be crucial for your success since pharmaceuticals are their own market that operate through businesses to provide optimal therapy for patients while being adherent to certain regulations.

Can you share any experiences where you felt a strong sense of camaraderie within the PharmCAT Family?
Our PharmCAT Family is honestly the most wholesome, supporting group of individuals you could surround yourself with. I do love the moments when students are willing to help each other academically through sharing of class notes or collaborating in study sessions. Additionally, our pharmacy organizations are extremely interactive creating chances for you to provide for the pharmacy world while getting to know many of your peers. Last, we were able to organize holiday based events such as Thanksgiving Potlucks highlighting the sense of belonging our PharmCAT Family is able to offer.

How have your professors or mentors positively impacted your learning experience?
Our faculty are very knowledgeable and experienced individuals that are always willing to help. Personally, I was lucky to be able to receive feedback regarding my CV/Resume by multiple instructors. Moreover, they are continuously open to help regarding career options, as well as. the chance to shadow some of the faculty that work in a hospital setting. Nevertheless, other faculty provide research based opportunities for students that have interest in that area.

What are your plans for after graduation?
I am hoping to continue my education through joining a PGY1 residency program to start my career as a clinical pharmacist.

What advice would you give to future PharmD students?
I would emphasize the importance of actually learning the information you are taught. Additionally, it is highly important to seek additional knowledge through shadowing faculty or research. Finally, I would encourage you to enjoy your four years by having strong friendships and don't let the stresses of school hold you down.
