Dec. 14, 2020

The College of Pharmacy is pleased to recognize Brian Erstad, PharmD, MCCP, FCCP, FASHP, head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science for his reception of the 2021 The University of Texas College of Pharmacy – Texas Society of HealthSystem Pharmacists Robert G. Leonard Memorial Lecture Award. Established in 1983, The Robert G. Leonard Memorial Lecture Award is presented to a pharmacist chosen for their outstanding contributions to the profession of pharmacy. Created to honor Dr. Robert G. Leonard, a worthy candidate is selected each year by a committee formed by The University of Texas College of Pharmacy at Austin. The lecture is presented annually at the TSHP Annual Seminar and each recipient is provided a $1,000 award.

Dr. Erstad has been both a pioneer in critical care pharmacy practice and a strong advocate for Board certification. He has served on the BPS Nuclear Pharmacy and Pharmacotherapy Specialty Councils. He was also appointed as the founding chair and later became the first elected chair of the BPS Specialty Council on Critical Care Pharmacy. In addition, he recently completed his term as the president of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.

When asked about his reaction upon being notified of his win, Dr. Erstad joked, “Since the recipient of the award is chosen by six past recipients of the award, I was honored but completely surprised by the announcement given that I was not contacted beforehand even by someone asking for my CV.”

Dr. Erstad will be granted this award during the 2021 TSHP Annual Meeting currently set for April 9-11.

Congratulations, Dr. Erstad!
