Nicholas Meyers, a third-year PharmD student in the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy, has been awarded a registration grant to attend the annual American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists conference in Orlando, Florida, in early April.  Meyers is president of the association’s UArizona student chapter.

“Receiving this grant is a nice recognition for the hard work I have put in over the past few years,” said Meyers. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have such excellent faculty at the Coit College of Pharmacy who are more than willing to give their time and energy to helping students achieve their goals.”

Meyers is one of 19 PharmD students from 16 different colleges of pharmacy around the country awarded the grant. According to the association’s website, recipients were selected based on recommendations and the merits of their applications.

As part of the grant, Meyers will be presenting a poster during the conference. He is mentored by the Coit College of Pharmacy’s Bernadette Cornelison, PharmD, an assistant clinical professor, David Rhys Axon, PhD, an associate research professor, and Nina Vadiei, PharmD, a clinical associate professor from the University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.

“I will be presenting a poster analyzing the prescribing trends surrounding valproic acid and concurrent contraceptive therapy in an ambulatory setting in the United States,” Meyers said. “Drs. Axon, Cornelison and Vadiei have been wonderful to work with and have helped me through every step of this process. I cannot thank them enough for the opportunity to work alongside them.”
