University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy alumna Sammy Zimmerman ’23, PharmD, had an essay published in the January edition of the Experts in Training newsletter from the American College of Clinical Pharmacy

In the essay, “A Day in the Life of a Postgraduate Trainee: Hey P4s, Don’t Miss it!” Zimmerman looks back on the path that led to her role as a PGY-1 resident at Sun Life Health in Casa Grande and encourages pharmacy students to pause and relish in their accomplishments along the way.

“Stop to consider that, right now, you are at a place that was once a goal for you,” she wrote in the essay. “You used to want to be done with undergraduate classes, complete your PCAT, get your pharmacy school applications submitted, get through pharmacy school interviews and get into pharmacy school.

“Now you’re getting ready to graduate and move on to your first professional role! Take a second to really let that sink in and congratulate yourself on all that you have already accomplished!”

Zimmerman said her varied experiences and excellent mentors in the Coit College of Pharmacy exposed her to different areas of pharmacy and have given her a desire to support the next generation of pharmacists.

“Having just recently completed pharmacy school, I'm so happy that I'm able to provide a little bit of support and motivation to P4 students during a very challenging year,” she said. “I look forward to gaining even more experience and to being a formal pharmacy mentor and educator someday.”
