Rukayat Aromokeye, a second-year graduate student within the University of Arizona R. Ken Coit College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, received the Young Investigator Award at the 2022 International Research Conference on Neurodegenerative Diseases in Omaha.

Aromokeye is a researcher in Dr. Haining Zhu's lab and her work focuses on stress granule proteins. Her goal is to identify small molecule inhibitors for these proteins and possible approaches for action.

"I am honored to receive this award as it shows our scientific work is of great importance. It is a privilege to be a part of a wonderful institution with the best mentors I could ever wish for -- Dr. Haining Zhu, Dr. Gregory Thatcher, Dr. Hongmin Li, and Martha Ackerman-Berrier. I am also grateful to my colleagues who contributed to this research and made this possible."

"Upon graduating, I hope to be well equipped in skill sets that would enable me to contribute more to research in drug discovery and pharmacology," she said.
