Dr. Tong, a faculty member of the College of Pharmacy for more than 35 years, was presented with the Elias Schlossberg Award on behalf of the Arizona Pharmacy Association (AzPA).
The Elias Schlossberg Award is the highest level of recognition for an Arizona pharmacist who has made significant contributions to health-system pharmacy in the form of sustained exemplary lifetime service that reflects positively on the profession of pharmacy. The award is especially significant because it is only presented when an AzPA member is truly deserving of the recognition is nominated; it is not an annual award.
Every summer since 1997, Dr. Tong has conducted one-week PharmCamps for disadvantaged inner-city and rural community middle school students to “put science to work” and challenge students to reach their highest potential by aspiring to a college education and successful life work. More than 600 students have attended PharmCamp over the 17 years of the program. The UA Alumni Association recognized Dr. Tong with its Hispanic Alumni Club 2013 Citizen Service Award for his work involved with PharmCamp.
The award was presented at the AzPA Annual Convention at the Sheraton Grand this past June.
Congratulations, Dr. Tong!
