PharmCamp to welcome middle-school students

TOPIC: Area middle school students to attend UA College of Pharmacy program: PharmCamp explores the pharmacy profession

24 students from Tucson middle schools will learn more about pharmacy and environmental health from UA College of Pharmacy student pharmacists and staff at PharmCamp 2011.

WHEN: Monday, June 6 through Friday, June 10, 2011
8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. each day

WHERE: The University of Arizona campus and other Tucson locations

WHAT: For the 14th year, PharmCamp attendees will get a look at pharmacy and environmental health through interactive exercises, a pharmacy tour and health clinic visit, and projects and activities designed to show and teach the many aspects of pharmacy practice.

WHO: This year, 24 students from Challenger Middle School (Sunnyside Unified School District) and Wildcat Charter School will attend. They will be led in exercises by current pharmacy and prepharmacy students, as well as faculty of the UA College of Pharmacy and the Southwest Environmental Health Sciences Center.

Students and faculty will be available for interviews throughout the week.

Photo-worthy events at PharmCamp will be lip balm and anti-itch lotion compounding exercises on June 6 and June 8, respectively. Students will also perform a “Sun Safety Awareness” experiment at 12:45 p.m. June 7.
