College of Pharmacy salutes three-time graduate as Alumnus of the Year

The University of Arizona Alumni Association presented three-time UA graduate Metta Lou Henderson of Portage, Mich., with the College of Pharmacy Alumnus of the Year award during a special ceremony Oct. 22.

The UA Alumni Association honors an alumnus or alumna from each college as its Alumnus of the Year. Henderson received her bachelor’s of science in pharmacy in 1961, master’s in pharmacy in 1966 and PhD in pharmacy in 1978.

In 2009, Henderson became the first pharmacy alumna to establish a large gift to the college through her estate, setting up plans for an endowed scholarship.

Henderson’s career in pharmacy included serving as director of pharmacy and director of the poison control center at Community Hospital in Battle Creek, Mich., assistant professor at Ferris State College’s Schoolof Pharmacy and professor at Ohio Northern University College of Pharmacy. Henderson retired in 1998 as Ohio Northern’s associate dean for pharmacy student affairs.
