PhD Degree

The UA College of Pharmacy offers PhD degrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences and in Pharmacology & Toxicology. Students have the option to choose from four graduate program tracks.

Our graduate programs will immerse you in well-funded research and educational opportunities in classrooms and laboratories at various sites. You will complete three to four laboratory rotations prior to selecting a research mentor that aligns with your interests. Additionally, throughout your curriculum, you will participate in regular seminars and symposiums designed to enhance your career development skills. Travel to scientific conferences is encouraged and annual funding helps defray costs. Each PhD graduate program track has an average time to graduation of less than 5 years.

Drug Discovery & Development Graduate Program Track

This graduate program track trains the future drug discovery research professional to employ cutting-edge technology to create new molecular therapeutics that engage specific biological targets underlying human diseases. Pharmaceutics deals with the design and development of pharmaceutical dosage forms. This graduate program track trains future scientists to create formulations to optimally control the bioavailability of pharmaceuticals. Health & Pharmaceutical Outcomes Graduate Program Track

The goal of the PhD program is to provide the student with an advanced knowledge base and extensive research skills to enable him or her to investigate and critically analyze the impact outcomes of pharmaceutical products and services within health care systems. The widespread benefits of pharmaceuticals in today's society, coupled with increased utilization and application of pharmaceutical services, has created a need for individuals with advanced training in health and pharmaceutical outcomes research.
