  • Student pharmacists serve local and even international communities by providing free health screenings, hosting educational seminars, raising money for charitable causes and volunteering in hospitals and other settings.

  • The college’s chapter of the American Pharmacists Association—Academy of Student Pharmacists has created a video and entered it into the 2011 APhA-ASP PharmFlix Video Contest.

  • J. Lyle Bootman, senior vice president for health sciences and dean of the College of Pharmacy at UA, has been selected to receive the Distinguished Person of the Year Award for 2012 from Pharmacists Planning Service, Inc.

    PPSI is a California non-profit corporation that offers a large number of health awareness programs to promote public health and education.

    The organization selected Bootman for the honor because of his many contributions to the profession of pharmacy. The award will be presented during the American Pharmacists Association Annual Meeting in New Orleans March 11.

  • National Foundation for Cancer Research funds critical TGen-UA cancer research

    Pancreatic cancer targeted by specific therapies with fewer side effects

    PHOENIX, Ariz. — Jan. 31, 2012 — The Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen) and the University of Arizona (UA) have received a three-year, $600,000 grant to study targeted cancer therapies from the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR).

    TOPIC:                   Pharmacy Day at the State Capitol

    Student Pharmacists Academy members from the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and Midwestern University College of Pharmacy – Glendale, along with the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance, will provide informational booths on topics such as poison control and smoking cessation and health screenings for conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and asthma.
