This page gives a general outline of anticipated College of Pharmacy activity related to expanding programs to the Phoenix Biomedical Campus, an emerging academic health center in downtown Phoenix that is also home to the UA College of Medicine-Phoenix..

The College of Pharmacy opened an office on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus in 2007 in the building that also houses the Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen). A core of key administrative staff there direct Phoenix-based operations and plan the expansion of post-degree, PhD and PharmD activities to come.

Our plans
- Approximately half of the students from the Tucson campus currently have one or more of their eight required clinical rotations at sites in Phoenix. Beginning in 2011, selected students will have the opportunity to select all of their clinical clerkship rotations in Phoenix, resulting in the first Phoenix “class.” The rotations for these students will be specially selected and developed with a focus on application of genomics and personalized medicine, and interprofessional education with medical and nursing students, along with other students in the health sciences including social work and nutrition. Senior projects for these students will be selected to complement the learning experience in their clinical clerkships.
- Faculty will be recruited in key areas that complement both the needs of the College of Pharmacy in Tucson and the research, practice and educational opportunities in Phoenix. The primary goal of these faculty members will be to improve the translation of scientific discovery into clinical practice to improve the use of medicines.
