Activities and Events

Philanthropy

Kappa Epsilon has two national philanthropies: ovarian cancer awareness and breast cancer awareness.  Our chapter, Sigma, actively participates in both of these great causes.

The Sigma chapter focuses on supporting breast cancer awareness and research efforts through various activities. In the past, Sigma chapter has participated in the Southern Arizona Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in the fall and the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in the spring.  We also hold various fundraisers throughout the year to raise money for breast cancer research. Some examples of fundraisers include pink ribbon antenna toppers and t-shirts with sayings like “Save Second Base” and “Big or Small…Save Them All” and donated a portion of the profits to Susan G. Komen.

In addition to our involvement in PharmCORP and spreading awareness about breast cancer, we make a yearly donation to the Tucson Community Food Bank by hosting a “Penny Wars” competition each December.  We love supporting other fraternities in their philanthropic activities and are active participants in other service events hosted by various organizations at the College.

This year, we look forward to developing programs for ovarian cancer awareness as it is one of the newest national philanthropies.

Social Events

Our members love to spend time together and we try to cater to everyone’s individual interests.  We have a minimum of one social event each month.  Every fall we go to a local pumpkin patch where we pick pumpkins and have a blast making our way through the corn maze.  This year we went to Old Tucson for their Halloween event and had a Halloween party at a member’s house.  We love to have social events at amazing restaurants like Guadalajara Grill or have laid back barbeques at each other’s houses or local parks.

One thing that makes Kappa Epsilon different from other pharmacy fraternities is that we love having members bring along their family, friends, or significant others to our social events.  We love getting to know one another and learning new things about each other, and feel that meeting the people in one another’s lives is a great way to do that.  Many of our social events are also pet-friendly, so if you have a furry friend we’d love to meet it!

Brotherhood

Brotherhood is one of the main focuses of our fraternity and so we have at least one brotherhood event each semester.  Each member of our fraternity gets a “Big Brother” who is their guide to all things KE.  A Big Brother serves as a mentor and a friend to each new initiate and is someone who can help address any concerns the new initiates may have.  Kappa Epsilons are there for their brothers when in need and truly care about one another.

In addition to creating close bonds within our chapter, we strive to get to know other chapters across the country by attending the bi-annual National Convention.  This past summer it was in Indianapolis, and in July of 2011 it will be in our neighboring city, Phoenix, Arizona!  We really encourage our members to attend and even help them pay for convention fees.  Convention is an awesome way to get to know other Kappa Epsilons and to learn more about the fraternity.

Networking

Being a member in Kappa Epsilon really has its benefits, and networking is a huge bonus!  There are thousands of Kappa Epsilons across the nation, all of whom love to help their brothers out.  Members of Kappa Epsilon have access to alumni across the country and are able to network to find jobs, travel and make business connections.  When you’re a KE, you’re never alone!
