While many students, faculty and staff grew out their facial hair during November in support of the Movember Foundation, one member of COP shaved his off for the first time in 40 years! But all were working for the same cause – helping Kappa Psi fraternity raise more than $1,500 for its newest philanthropic initiative. (Read about Dr. Murphy’s losing his ‘stache here.)
The international Movember Foundation is committed to “changing the face” of men’s health by sparking conversation and, through mustache challenges, raising funds for its men’s health programs.
The two final Kappa Psi events of Movember included percentage nights at local restaurants. The Dec. 3 event included a mustache contest. Participants were encouraged to send pictures of their mustaches in via email or Facebook. An online survey allowed the public to decide who had the best mustache. Participates were judged based on three categories: “The Most Awesome ‘Stache of Them All,” “Creeper Status ‘Stache” and “Excuse me, you have a bit of dirt on your face, ‘Stache.” Winners included Steve Dudley (#11), Class of 2015; James Ketterer (#1), Class of 2017; and Deo Mopero (#6), Class of 2016, respectively.
