Poison center draws a crowd at the Tucson Festival of Books

The Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center booth in the Science City portion of the Tucson Festival of Books, held on the UA Mall March 14 and 15, was a very popular stop for children and adults alike.

“We had over 3,000 visitors to the tent and helped over 1,000 guests make pipe-cleaner spiders,” says Liz Barta, poison education specialist from the poison center.

Along with the spider building table, the poison center display had live bark scorpions, a wheel to spin for prizes and a display of household poisons that are packaged in ways surprisingly similar to food products.
