Cherrington named director of graduate studies
Nathan Cherrington, associate professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, will become director of graduate studies in the College of Pharmacy on November 28, 2011. He will replace Associate Dean A. Jay Gandolfi, who has overseen graduate studies since 1999, in this role.
Cherrington joined the faculty of the college in 2002. Since then, he has been very active in graduate education, acting as major adviser for eight doctoral students and serving on 32 PhD graduate committees. His graduate students have been the recipients of both regional and national honors and have received fellowships from the National Institutes of Health and industrial sponsors.
Cherrington began serving on the executive council for the pharmacology and toxicology graduate program in 2003 and has been chair of that program track since 2007. He has considerable experience with the Graduate College, having served as a university graduate council member since 2006.
“With eight years serving on the Pharm-Tox Executive Council, five years as track director, and five years serving on the Graduate College Council, Nathan brings a lot of experience to the position of director of the college’s graduate programs,” says Gandolfi.
