Rick G. Schnellmann, PhD, a leading pharmacologist, researcher and drug discovery entrepreneur, has been appointed dean of the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. He began his new duties on Aug. 1, joining the UA from the Medical University of South Carolina where he served as Distinguished University Professor and chair of the College of Pharmacy’s Department of Drug Discovery and Biomedical Sciences.
Catharine Smith has been researching genes for more than 30 years, delving into how their expression is regulated and how that regulation might be altered in cancer or other diseases. In particular, she studies epigenetic mechanisms of gene expression and how new drugs that target these mechanisms control them.

In only four short years since he graduated from the UA College of Pharmacy, Matthew Bertsch has earned his stripes as a preceptor.
Bertsch, director of pharmacy at Sun Life Family Center in Casa Grande, was recognized as the college's Rookie Preceptor of the Year for 2016.
The COP Student Council hosted a picnic April 28 for all college students and employees to celebrate the end of the academic year.
