Every spring, the students of Phi Delta Chi organize a softball tournament to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
“We have had the softball tournament for as long as our current adviser can remember,” says Julia Olson, chief counselor of Phi Delta Chi, “so it’s been at least 12 years.”
With a lot of support from local grocery stores in the community, this year’s tournament raised more than $700, which is almost double what they raised last year.
First-year PharmD students donned light blue T-shirts, second-years were attired in green, third- years sported purple and fourth-years stood out in red. This year’s tournament was arranged a little differently than in previous years due to an uneven number of students from each year.
“We organized the games so that everyone had a chance to play everybody else,” Olson states, “We didn’t really have one overall winner.”
The fourth-years proved to be the strongest team, but keep your eye out for the first-years next spring: they have hopes of surpassing this year’s total!
