Our hearts ache as we share the wrenching news that one of our own lost a beloved daughter in the Newtown, Conn., shooting Dec. 14.
Avielle Richman, age 6, was one of the first-graders killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Her parents are Jeremy Richman, who received a PhD in pharmacology and toxicology from the College of Pharmacy in 1998, and Jennifer Hensel, also a graduate of the University of Arizona. An obituary of Avielle appeared in the Newtown Bee Dec. 17.
Since the tragedy, the family has established the Avielle Foundation with a mission of mental health research and advocacy to support and protect vulnerable populations. Donations may be made to the Avielle Foundation, P.O. Box 686, Newtown, CT 06470. Find additional information about the work that will be undertaken or how to make an online donation at the Avielle Foundation website.
