She's a vice president of Medco Health Solutions and a longtime member of the College of Pharmacy National Advisory Board member. And now alumna Mary Ryan is also a recipient of the University of Arizona Alumni Association's Professional Achievement Award.
Ryan, who graduated with a BSPharm in 1974, was presented with the award during the annual National Advisory Board meeting held Sept. 15 and 16 in New York City.
The award is presented by the Alumni Association in recognition of UA graduates who have a record of achievement in their professions and noteworthy service to the university. Ryan has been with Medco since 1988, achieving increasingly responsible positions at the leading pharmacy benefit manager that now serves more than 65 million people and is the nation's largest mail order pharmacy operation.
Nominators praised her for her leadership within the company in relation to pharmacy practice, regulation and government policy, and her "grace, dignity and cheerfulness." She was also lauded for her generous financial and service support to the College of Pharmacy, including her influence in establishing a significant Medco-sponsored scholarship for service.
"It was really a pleasure to say thank you to Mary in athis way for all she has done for our college and board," Dean J. Lyle Bootman says. " She is a fine role model for all pharmacy professionals in her work and a very deserving recipient of this achievement award."
