Alumni
Lucy Chemodurow and Shanna Christensen, both PharmD 2010, were co-authors of an original research paper published in Pharmacy Practice. Other authors on the study were Edward Armstrong, professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science, and E. Suzanne Johnson, one of the college’s preceptors and pharmacy clinical coordinator at Carondelet St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Students
Adrienne Gilligan, PhD student in the pharmaceutical economics, policy and outcomes program, was co-author of a research article published in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. The article, “Pharmacy Students’ Retention of Knowledge of Drug-Drug Interactions,” was co-authored with faculty members Terri Warholak, John Murphy, Lisa Hines and Daniel Malone.
PediaCats, the first pediatric pharmacy student organization in the U.S., which was started at COP in 2010, is being credited with inspiring other colleges of pharmacy to start pediatric pharmacy clubs. The Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group recognized PediaCats in February, and in August announced that pediatric pharmacy student groups are sprouting throughout the U.S.
The College of Pharmacy took home two awards from the Kappa Epsilon Fraternity’s 48th national convention held in Phoenix in July. COP’s KE organization, Sigma Chapter, received honorable mention for their kickoff PharmCorp program this spring, which reached out to more than 200 middle-schoolers to talk about pharmacy and teach a little about compounding. Lynne Mascarella, the chapter’s adviser, was recognized with the outstanding adviser award.
The college supported the convention in many ways. COP students and KE members Andrew Cook, Kalie Heideman, Rachael Mead, Adam Nye, Tiara Patten and Tracy Post attended the convention. The Sigma Chapter provided registration staffing, participated in the program, and sold water bottles, shirts and mortar and pestle sets that could be personalized, raising funds for future KE service projects. COP alumna Cathy Cantini (BSPharm 1984) remains active in KE and served as convention chair. Cantini and fellow COP alumnae Sunny Munger (PharmD 1998) and Janet Henglefelt (BSPharm 1980), along with several other KE alumni residing in the Phoenix area, represented the Phoenix KE alumni chapter. Metta Lou Henderson (BPharm 1961, MSPharm 1966, PhD 1978) has remained active in KE throughout her career and was part of the program. Also on the agenda was Theodore Tong, COP associate dean, who discussed the PharmCamp program.
