Modifications to my Z28
Since I found it extremely helpful to follow the instructions of
other F-body owners, who have documented modifications they have made
to their cars, I decided to also contribute to the knowledge base.
Some of the modifications and maintainance work I've described here have been
documented elsewhere, while others have not.
I created this web site mostly for selfish reasons since this process gave
gave me a record of the things I did. This will be useful
if I needed to do the same thing over again. Unfortunately, a
lot of the modifications came at the same
time so I don't have timeslips to show how much each change improved
performance.
Finally, I'm not a professional mechanic, but I had the luxury of a garage
in my home and a second vehicle
so I didn't have to rush a repair job. What I've described here is what I've done
based on the knowledge I had at the time. Hopefully everything is correct, but I
make no guarentees. Use this info at your own risk. Before doing any work on your
vehicle learn as much as you can about the task before you get into it. A repair
manual specific for your car is a very worthwhile first purchase. I used a Helms
manual. When you do the work, be safe. The first instruction for almost every procedure
is to disconnect the battery, even though I don't state that specifically. When
working under the car use a good jack to raise the vehicle and support it with
sturdy jack stands and/or ramps.
Hope this is enjoyable reading, and good luck with your repairs.
