Rear Main Bearing Housing Seal Replacement

If you remove the rear main bearing housing you should replace the seal. It is not normally necessary to remove the rear main bearing  housing when just replacing the rear main seal , however I had oil leaks every where so I chose to replace all seals and gaskets. I describe the installation since the pictures are better after all the oil has been cleaned up. Obviously if you follow the directions from last to first that will give the disassembly procedure. 1. This first picture shows the rear of the engine with the Transmission, Clutch, Rear Main Seal, and Rear Main Bearing Housing all removed. The oil pan has also been lowered since the rear of the oil pan gasket attaches to the bottom of the rear main bearing housing. The old Rear Main Bearing Housing Seal has been removed.
2. This picture shows the new gasket installed. One end goes over the stud and the other over the locator pin. There is only one way the seal can go on since the hole sizes on each end are different. I used a Fel-Pro seal  (I had to buy the whole bearing set, Part number BS40520, to get the seal, Part number 93215).

3. Finally install the Rear Main Bearing Housing and attach using
one short 3/8" bolt the other short 3/8" bolt
the 7/16" nut on the stud the long 3/8" bolt through the locator
4. Torque all to 11lb/ft =132 lb/in = 15nM
