Fry's Community Pharmacy Residency
The Fry's Community Pharmacy Residency Program, established in 1998, was the first program of its kind in the state of Arizona. The recipient of six grants to develop and evaluate innovative clinical and administrative programs, Fry's residency is affiliated with The University of Arizona and is based out of Fry's Food and Drug and Stores.
Fry's has over 100 locations throughout Arizona, and is a division of Kroger, one of the largest grocery store chains in the nation with locations in 31 states. This national affiliation provides postgraduate employment opportunities throughout the United States. While the residency is based out of one location in Tucson, the resident spends time at other Fry's locations in Tucson and Phoenix, The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and the Tucson VA Medical Center.
While guided by required behavioral objectives from the ASHP/APhA Community Residency Standard, the resident is offered a wide latitude of activities based on the resident's interests and previous experience. Flexibility in scheduling is maintained to optimize opportunities to address and resolve issues that arise during the course of the residency. The main emphasis in the residency program is to develop, conduct and manage pharmaceutical care programs at Fry's. In addition, the resident develops the necessary skills to become a successful manager in community pharmacy practice. Furthermore, the resident will receive extensive training and experience in teaching, develop grant proposals, conduct patient research, and evaluate pharmaceutical care and pharmacy service programs. The resident will accomplish these goals in the following manner:
