The purpose of the PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program at the Banner-University Medical Center Tucson is to prepare pharmacists to able to provide direct patient care pharmacy services as an adjunct faculty member in an acute, tertiary care facility, pursue advanced training in a PGY2 residency or fellowship and/or be prepared to take the Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialists (BCPS) exam.
The program emphasizes clinical practice and includes core (required) learning experiences in general medicine, critical care, infectious disease, nutrition support and drug information. Elective learning experiences are available in other clinical and administrative areas. The program also requires the resident to learn and develop teaching and research techniques.
This residency participates in the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Residency Matching Program (ASHP) and is fully accredited by ASHP. Upon successful completion of the residency program, an appropriate certificate is awarded to the resident by the college and the hospital.
