75. Diethylene glycol (DEG) was responsible for this mass poisoning tragedy. This is the sixth major mass poisoning involving DEG in the 20th century. DEG was used as a solvent in the formulation of liquid acetaminophen product. More than 70 children were poisoned in the toxic epidemic of kidney failure which was traced to an elixir of acetaminophen preparation manufactured in Haiti.
