Meeting Minutes

October 31, 2002

Officers Meeting: Kim Lightner, Katie Matthias, Komal Naidu, Darcy Tincombe, and Terry Yampolsky were in attendance.

First on the agenda, weather is cooling down so it should be a good time to sell those extra coffee mugs we have been storing all summer. We are hoping to start sales November 5th at 7:30am as classes start at 8am. We need to approve this with Sandy Rogers. Terry and Katie will get approval for the sale outside room 325. Darcy will bring creamer, Katie will bring cups, Terry will bring Coffee, and we will arrange to get the coffee mugs out there early.

We have speakers scheduled for Wednesdays next semester, but will need to change them to Thursday since there is a class scheduled in room 325 until 12:15 on Wednesdays. Kim Lightner will be contacting the speakers and hopefully this wont present a huge problem for the spring.

Elections are tentatively scheduled for February 27th this should give us a couple of months to help transition new officers and plan activities for the following year.

Continuing Education topic Rheumatoid arthritis is 15 hours we would like to set aside time to do this as a group. Since 2nd year students and 3rd year students have different schedules it was suggested that there be two different meeting times to do this. However, we may have to schedule more than one time to complete 15 hours of CE anyway. It was suggested we might try to get together after school on a Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon.

Katy's Kids is still up in the air. Katie Steffel wasn't at the meeting today. We think Katie has contacted some schools and just hasn't heard back from them. Since we have lots of new members that joined because they really wanted to take part in Katy's Kids it was suggested we make a few phone calls ASAP. Since Terry Yampolsky is always at her kids elementary including today she talked with the first and second grade teachers at Sunrise Elementary. The First grade teachers were really excited to do this and said they lack this in their curriculum and may be able to coordinate a time with the kindergarteners as well. The school could meet in the MPR or Kiva if that would be ok. Terry will be contacting Katie Steffel to set things up. The school said November 15th from 1:30-2:15pm would be great if that works with our schedule.

Komal Naidu said Open Airways training would start up again next semester. Classes are going well with the members that are already trained. Asthma Walk was a small turnout, with AIDSWALK on the same day, but it raised a good amount of money as most people going to AIDSWALK donated to Asthma Walk.

Ronald McDonald house was a huge success. Darcy Tincombe had a craft project, making crowns for Halloween. Since most of the kids are too sick to leave the hospital, students finished crowns and took them to the pediatric ward at the hospital. Lots of happy faces there! There are plans to see if Valentines is open for decorating, or plan a dinner in the spring. With the new officers it may be a joint effort so that new members get a chance to help out organizing an event.
