Make plans to attend Homecoming 2015

Details are shaping up for another great Homecoming celebration. Mark your calendar to be part of the fun at the College of Pharmacy on Oct. 23 and on the main campus Oct. 24.

We're making some changes to our events this year, partly to reduce costs during a very tight budget cycle. The Pharmacy festivities kick off Friday afternoon with guided tours of the college's award-winning Medication Management Center, which is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary, and of the always interesting History of Pharmacy Musuem, which boasts some new exhibits, including pieces once displayed at Disneyland.

For Friday evening, we'll welcome college alumni, students and employees to an al fresco reception outside Drachman Hall from 5 to 6:30 p.m. During the reception, while we are sipping wine and crunching munchies, we'll also tip our hats to those PharmCats receiving UA and college awards, and to the Medication Management Center. The program will be brief, as renewing acquaintances is the primary goal of this event.

Saturday is game day against Washington State. Event times for Saturday all will be determined in relation to the time set in October for the football clash. This year PharmCats will congregate in the UA Alumni Association tent on UA Mall to watch the parade and socialize. Food and beverages will be available for purchase in and near the Alumni Association tent.

We're looking forward to good weather, good times and good company -- be sure to register soon!

College welcomes large new class

August signals the arrival of new students to the college, and this year we went big, accepting 120 newcomers into the PharmD program. Thirteen aspiring research students also joined our master's and PhD programs. Read about the backgrounds of our new PharmCats and watch a video about what brought them to pharmacy and UA.

Thanks to 'The Congratulators'

Three cheers to the 13 alumni volunteers who issued warm Wildcat welcomes to the college's most recent graduates over the summer. We graduated 97 new PharmDs in May, and the following folks contacted nearly all by phone, text or email, congratulating them on being new Pharmacy alumni! "The Congratulators" were Ed Gatti (1965), Ashlee Dauenhauer and Matt Bertsch (2012), Denise Holzman (1986), Bill Jones (1972), Dawn Sullivan (1995), Michelle Bonnarens (1997), Tom Reed (1969), Bill Fritz (1970), Amy Grizzle (1990), Lindsey Kelley (2005) and Steven Boyles and Patrick Hryshko (2014).

PharmD program to expand to Phoenix

Next fall, the College of Pharmacy expects to launch a full PharmD program on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus. A cadre of first-year pharmacy students will start the ball rolling in August 2016. The Phoenix group will be a component of the current PharmD program, with 20 to 25 percent of total students enrolled completing their three years of classroom work in Phoenix.

Wildcats Forever contest gifts 15

Now in its fifth year, the college's Wildcats Forever program presented 15 three-year paid memberships to 2015 graduates this May. Making the gift memberships possible were alumni donors Jessica DiLeo (2013); Matt Bertsch, Bernadette Cornelison and Ashlee Dauenhauer (2012); Monica Adams and Lindsey Mullen (2011); Crane Davis (1995); Bill Jones (1972); Al Scorsatto (1970); Ed Gatti (1965); and Jack Cole (1953).
