COP takes next step on path to Phoenix
The University of Arizona has signed a lease that will give the College of Pharmacy office and meeting room space beginning July 2007 on the new Phoenix Biomedical Campus.
The 2,500 square foot space is on the first floor of the Translational Genomics Institute (TGen) headquarters at 445 N. 5th St. in downtown Phoenix.
It will be an interim home for the college in Phoenix while permanent buildings for the Phoenix Biomedical Campus are constructed. It will house Phoenix-based COP administrators and provide educational space for fourth-year PharmD students who are performing their clinical rotations in Maricopa County.
The lease signing moves COP one step closer to developing full PharmD and research programs in Phoenix by approximately the year 2012.
College administrators anticipate staffing the Phoenix operations with a vice dean of academic planning; an assistant director of finance, development and public affairs; a director of experiential education-Phoenix; faculty for pharmacogenomics programs and support staff.
The first position to be filled will be director of experiential education-Phoenix, who will develop a cadre of PharmD students to complete their final year in greater Phoenix rotation sites and provide outreach to Phoenix communities.
