College of Pharmacy looks toward Phoenix

As the Phoenix Biomedical Campus takes shape, the College of Pharmacy is exploring opportunities to expand existing programs and develop new ones in the Phoenix area.

The first goal is to develop a cadre of fourth-year PharmD students who will complete their clinical rotations in Maricopa County and conduct a variety of health education and outreach events in the area.

The next step will be to develop a program for PharmD graduates in clinical pharmacogenomics, the study of how an individual's genetic influence affects the body's response to drugs. Initially the program will include a residency track that will prepare students to conduct translational patient-oriented research for academic or industry positions and a fellowship track that will prepare students to deliver and monitor therapies based on pharmacogenetic charactistics.

Developing a PhD program in pharmacogenomics and implementing a four-year program for PharmD education based in Phoenix are being explored as long-term goals.
