FYI for COP: Nov. 4, 2009

Pharmacy Day on the Mall draws a crowd
Approximately 300 Wildcats attended Pharmacy Day on the UA Mall Oct. 29. More than 40 students volunteered for the event (see photo at right), putting on screenings, handing out health materials and informing attendees about issues such as skin cancer and safe sex. Kappa Psi registered 60 people for the National Bone Marrow Registry, and other volunteers screened more than 50 people for diabetes, asthma and hypertension.
Residency and preceptor showcase informs students
The COP Residency and Preceptor Showcase organized by experiential education staff Oct. 28 at the Student Union Memorial Center drew approximately 150 UA and Midwestern College of Pharmacy students. Approximately 50 preceptors from nearly 30 sites set up information booths about clinical rotations and residencies at community pharmacies, hospitals, the public health service and other practice sites.
Faculty from Costa Rican university visit COP
Two officials from the Universidad de Ciencias Medicas in Costa Rica visited the College of Pharmacy last week to meet us and learn more about our programs. Ivette Fonseca Peñaranda, dean of the School of Pharmacy, and Andrés Guzmán Gómez, professor, visited with several faculty and administrators here, speaking about further possible collaborations between the two universities.
Day off coming
Don't forget that next Wednesday, Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, a UA holiday--no classes and offices are closed.
