National Advisory Board to meet Oct 1-3
Eleven members of the college’s National Advisory Board will convene in Tucson from all over the country for the group’s 2009 meeting Oct. 1-3.
The mission of the board, which currently numbers 25 members, is to provide specific advice and support to The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy to advance its programs, faculty and students.
At this year’s meeting, Richard Katz, CEO of Modern Health Inc. and a 1970 alumnus of the college, will become the new chairman of the board.
"The College's National Advisory Board is made up of top leaders in the world of pharmacy, science and health care,” says Dean J. Lyle Bootman. “We're happy to host this illustrious group once again and receive their input and direction for the college. We're especially delighted with this meeting to mark the new term of our incoming chairman, Richard Katz. Richard follows in the steps of Stanley Goldenberg, who has been chair for more than eight years. We thank Stan for his past work and commitment, and look forward to Richard's leadership."
Activities planned for the board during their visit include a business meeting in Drachman Hall, tours of a clinical research laboratory and the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center, a visit to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a golf outing at the Westin La Paloma resort, and dinner at the home of professor Laurence Hurley and his wife, Terry Evers. Hurley holds the Howard J. Schaeffer Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
