Car sharing program introduced
UA began a new alternative transportation program in mid-August to help students and employees travel off-campus during the day. The Hertz car-sharing program places rental cars in several garages and locations around campus and lets people take them out by the hour.
“It’s going very well,” says David Heineking, director of Parking and Transportation Services. “Last I heard, we had almost 300 people signed up.”
To use one of the cars, sign up for the car-sharing program on Hertz’s Web site. After you receive an access card, you can reserve a vehicle online for however many hours you want. The price is $8 an hour, which includes gas.
Hertz is supplying 10 cars to the program: three in the Tyndall Garage, one in the Sixth Street Garage, two on Highland south of Fourth Street, two in the Second Street Garage and two on Olive and Second Street.
Currently, the closest garage to the College of Pharmacy buildings is the Second Street Garage by the Student Union Memorial Center. To get there, Heineking recommends taking the Cat Tran’s teal route.
