Women’s Health Expo To Offer Free Screenings
March 16, 2009
Tucson, AZ – The 7th Annual Women’s Health Expo will be held Saturday, March 28 at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. The expo, sponsored by student pharmacists from the college, will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
This event, which drew more than 200 people last year, offers Tucson women and their loved ones the opportunity to talk one-on-one with healthcare professionals and learn about risk factors and warning signs for disease.
A number of free screenings will be offered, including diabetes, asthma, hypertension, diabetic foot exams and medication reviews. Attendees can browse through a number of health education materials from health organizations and local businesses. Representatives from the Arizona Poison and Drug Information Center will field questions about preventing accidental poisonings and dealing with venomous desert creatures.
Guest speakers include Donna Bryson, an official educator from the Open Airways Asthma Education Program, and Gwen Gallegos, a nurse practitioner and certified diabetes educator. Bryson will present “Asthma 101: The Basics” at 10:30 a.m., detailing asthma issues such as potential asthma triggers, symptoms of an acute asthma episode and medications used in asthma management. Gallegos will present at 11:30 a.m. in Spanish, addressing the signs and symptoms of diabetes and management of the disease.
Students will give out free gifts and goodie bags to all participants. They will also have a raffle for attendees who go to health lectures or complete a survey.
