Pharmacy Dean Joins National Academies of Practice
Tucson, Ariz.—J. Lyle Bootman, PhD, ScD, dean of The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, has been elected to the National Academies of Practice as a distinguished practitioner of pharmacy.
The NAP is a nonprofit professional organization composed of elected, distinguished representatives from 10 different health professions. Founded in 1981, the central purpose of NAP is to advise public policy makers on health care issues from NAP’s unique perspective: that of expert practitioners and scholars joined in interdisciplinary dialogue. Each of the 10 academies is limited to 150 active distinguished practitioners or scholars.
Bootman was named dean of the UA College of Pharmacy in 1990, following three years as interim dean. He is the founding and executive director of the Center for Health Outcomes and PharmacoEconomic Research at The University of Arizona. In 1998, he was elected as a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. He received the Remington Honor Medal, presented by the American Pharmacists Association and widely considered the pharmacy profession’s highest honor, in 2008.
