UA professor to receive Biotechnology Award

Tucson, AZ--Laurence Hurley, PhD, Howard Schaeffer Chair in Pharmaceutical Sciences at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and associate director of the BIO5 Institute, will be recognized by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy with the Paul R. Dawson Biotechnology Award in July.
The award is presented annually by the pharmacy education organization to an individual for contributions to contemporary teaching and scholarship in biotechnology. Hurley is recognized worldwide as an accomplished and innovative medicinal chemist and leader in molecular cancer therapeutics and biotechnology.
Of the three major awards that AACP bestows annually, Hurley has been tapped to receive two: the Dawson and the Volwiler Research Achievement Award, which he received in 1989.

About the Paul R. Dawson Biotechnology Award
The Paul R. Dawson Biotechnology Award consists of an art glass double helix sculpture and a $10,000 cash prize, and is sponsored by Amgen in honor of its former Vice President of Marketing and Sales Paul R. Dawson, a staunch supporter of education in biotechnology. The intent of the award is to recognize annually an active scientist within the ranks of pharmacy education recognized by his or her peers as one of the leaders in the contemporary teaching of and scholarship in biotechnology and its related science.
