The sky was overcast on the morning of the College of Pharmacy’s Graduation Convocation 2015, but graduating students’ smiles more than made up for the gray horizon and cool temperatures of May 15.
Dean J. Lyle Bootman welcomed graduates and their guests to the ceremony in Centennial Hall on the UA campus: “Graduates, relish the excitement you feel today and accept the pride that all of us have in your accomplishments. Today is your day, the culmination of many dreams.”
Ten PhD students and 99 PharmD students were recognized at the event for completing their degrees. During the convocation ceremony, each new graduate paused for a moment to receive the academic hood that distinguishes him or her as a doctor of philosophy or a doctor of pharmacy. Each student’s beaming smile said it all – gratitude to family, friends and faculty who had supported him or her through school; relief at the end of the years of hard work to obtain the degree; excitement at what the future holds.
Amanda Condon, president of the PharmD Class of 2015, said,“The Class of 2015 is as successful, compassionate and diverse as they come. I look at each and every one of you and I am proud to call you my classmate, my peer and now my colleague. I am confident that this class will go out and do great things.”
Angela Davis, PhD, who was part of the Drug Discovery and Development Track, encouraged her fellow graduates and charged them: “You have already proven that you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Be creative with the skills and abilities that have come to light about you over these past years of training, and do something great with them.”
