The weather cooperated nicely for this year’s College of Pharmacy Homecoming events Nov. 8 and 9 (even if the Bruins didn’t!). Yes, the UA Wildcats lost the football game, but there were other highlights to celebrate.
Many old friends and classmates gathered at the reception Friday evening in a big tent on the lawn south of Drachman Hall. In addition to enjoying finger foods, beer and wine, 150 or more alumni and friends chatted with each other, browsed merchandise for sale by student groups and applauded award recipients.
Luminaries who were recognized with awards were:
- Jack Cole, BS Pharmacy 1953, who was presented with the UA Alumni Association’s Alumnus of the Year Award.
- Allen Lew, BS Pharmacy 1972, who received the Danny and Rae Jacob Award for Pharmacy Practice.
- Theodore Tong, who was presented with the Findlay E. Russell, MD, PhD, Distinguished Citizen Award.
- Michael Kalsman, BS Pharmacy 1953, and his wife, Kathryn, who accepted the Jack R. Cole, PhD, Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Members of the National Advisory Board who attended the Friday reception were Hal Ward, Greg Watanabe, Bill Wheeler and Ken Coit.

The perfect weather held for the Homecoming tailgate gathering and parade on Saturday on the UA Mall. More than 100 PharmCats stopped by the COP tent.
